Wood Packaging Requirements INTO the EU

IFF wishes to remind its customers that the European Union regulation, which mandates that "any wooden packaging material with a width of 6 mm or more, be either heat treated or fumigated prior to exportation from the USA", became fully enforceable on April 1st, 2005. Exemptions are WPM less than 6mm (1/4 inch), particle board, plywood and Canadian origin wood.

Ensuring compliance with this new regulation is the responsibility of the shipper. EU officials have presently stated that non-treated skids or wood packaging from non-EU countries entering the EU will be replaced, and the non-treated WPM will be destroyed, and all expenses will be borne by the CONSIGNEE.

IFF is glad to assist our customers to comply with these regulations. Please contact your IFF Account Manager for details.
