New Section 232 Tariffs on Household Appliance Steel Derivatives

The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has announced that new steel derivatives involving household appliances will be subject to Section 232 tariffs of 50%, effective June 23 at 12:01 a.m. ET 1.

The revised Annex 1 includes the following steel derivative products:

Combined refrigerator-freezers (HTSUS subheading 8418.10.00)
Small and large dryers (HTSUS subheadings 8451.21.00 and 8451.29.00)
Washing machines (HTSUS subheadings 8450.11.00 and 8450.20.00)
Dishwashers (HTSUS subheading 8422.11.00)
Chest and upright freezers (HTSUS subheadings 8418.30.00 and 8418.40.00)
Cooking stoves, ranges, and ovens (HTSUS subheading 8516.60.40)
Food waste disposals (HTSUS subheading 8509.80.20)
Welded wire racks (statistical reporting number 9403.99.9020)

The tariffs imposed under Proclamation 10896 will be assessed based on the steel content value in each product. All other tariff codes for steel and steel derivative products in Annex 1 remain unchanged. Additionally, products classified under statistical reporting number 9403.99.9020 will continue to be subject to tariffs under Proclamation 10895 for their aluminum content.
